What better way to spend your birthday

than with your best friend trying to turn your tongues as many different colors as possible from all the candy...

Trail Ride at Platte Ranch

The trail ride was so much fun.  While Eliana has been riding almost weekly for the past year, I have not and after a 2+ hour trail ride my bum was feeling every inch of the saddle.  Eliana got to ride a very dependable ranch pony named Tonka.  He especially liked being in the "back of the pack".  I got to ride a ranch horse named Peanut who laid her ears flat back every time I tried to make her wait so I could ride with Eliana.  Peanut was definitely a "front of the pack" ranch horse.  Thank goodness the horses were well trained because the scenery was simply spectacular and sometimes we forgot we were riding.  This photo is from South Park with the Collegiate Peaks in the background.

It is now official!

The school did a really nice job with the send off and it is now official, Adelyne is on her way to Middle School and 7th grade. Can't wait to see what her and her friends accomplish next!

Spring Band Concert

The song is called "Megiddo" and it is Adelyne's favorite of the program because "the brass got to take the lead."  She has already signed up for band next year too.  And her soccer coach, who loaned her his trombone for beginning band, told her last night that she could keep it.  I haven't seen her smile that big in awhile!

Ocean Musical

Here is a short clip from Brooke's Ocean Musical performance at school.  Brooke is in the middle row in a pink swim shirt with green goggles (BTW, she was so excited she wore the goggles on the way to the performance as well).

Snow days!

February and March bring many snow days.  And when they can't be outside, the girls, especially Brooke, love to play with Moonlight and Oreo.  Thank goodness for tile floors as these little guys are machines when it comes to poop.

Riding Cody

Eliana is continuing lessons this winter, whenever the weather cooperates.  She has now advanced to riding Cody, a very gentle mustang.  The part I find most interesting about Cody is that he was born in the wild, but you would never know it from his demeanor.

CMEA Conference at the Broadmoor

Adelyne's band got chosen to play at the Colorado Music Educators' Association conference at the very elegant Broadmoor resort yesterday.  The performance was beautiful - especially when you consider all 117 of these kids just started playing their instruments at the beginning of the school year.  The funniest part was that in between the first and second song, Adelyne's trombone valve got caught in her skirt and the conductor had to pause for 20 seconds as she pulled the skirt out.  Luckily she has a sense of humor and was laughing about it afterwards, but pretty nerve wracking at the time.  Adelyne is in the top row, fifth from the left.

Happy Birthday!

What was your favorite gift?
A little background - the potting soil came with an herb book, seeds, and an indoor planter.  But it is pretty cool to tell your friends that you got dirt for your birthday.  Thanks, Dad!

Christmas tree?

When you cut your own Christmas tree and you've seen Dad's adventures in doing so for the past two years, what do you do while you are watching Dad struggle once again?
And when you finally get it in the house and decorated?
To Shawn's credit, this was the smoothest year yet.  Nothing got stuck, nothing broke, and the tree didn't topple the tree stand.  Merry Christmas!
